We, the DAP WANITA Penang are in solidarity with YB Kasthuri Patto and we demand an apology from the MP of Baling, Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim to all Malaysians over his sexist & racist remarks thrown against MP Batu Kawan, YB Kasthuriraani Patto during the first day of Parliamentary session.

His remarks made yesterday over Batu Kawan MP is racist, sexist & totally uncalled for. When Kasthuri Patto questioned about the lack of women representatives in the Select Committee, Baling MP shouted “Gelap tak nampak, pakailah bedak!” (It’s too dark to see, please put on some powder)

As an MP elected by the people standing in the August House, such remarks were senseless, disappointing and unacceptable. This is not the first time where BN MPs have made such sexist remarks to another female MP.

Do you still remember Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar’s remarks to former Kampar MP Fong Poh Kuan’s complaint on the leaking roof in Parliament? To recap, he said: “Even the honourable MP leaks once a month.”

Just how many sexist remarks should women MP tolerate in the August house?

On the second day of Parliamentary session, we understand that MP Baling, Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim had made an explanation about his remarks, saying that he was referring to the dim lighting in the house.

His explanation clearly shows that he’s a coward; a spineless person who didn’t even dare to own up his own mistake and apologize. He demonstrated behavior that is not befitting of an MP. His words, “Gelap tak nampak, pakailah bedak!” clearly showed that he was referring to a person.

We will not accept his explanation and we demand a clear, unequivocal & unreserved apology to YB Kasthuri & all women in Malaysia. His words have insulted every woman and has clearly demonstrated his narrow perception of how a woman should be like.

Again, we want a clear, unequivocal & unreserved apology from him to all Malaysians, especially women.

当卡斯杜丽问责国会遴选委员会为何没有一名女性时,巫统华玲议员阿都阿兹表示“太暗了,看不清,涂粉吧!” 他的言论污蔑了每一位女性,并表达了他自身对女性的刻板印象。
