PENANGITES FIRST!!
ONLY LOW COST, LOW MEDIUM COST AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING TO BE PRIORITISED FOR PENANGITES WHO ARE REGISTERED PENANG VOTERS, UNTIL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OVERCOMES ITS FAILURES IN PROVIDING SUCH HOUSING FOR US!
ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST UNSCRUPULOUS MEDIA FOR REPORTS THAT THE PENANG GOVERNMENT IMPOSES SUCH A CONDITION FOR ALL PROPERTIES!
I refer to the very misleading report by several BN media which claimed Penang as having a very ‘weird’ condition for home buyers, namely the necessity to be a registered voter of Penang, as stated, allegedly, by PM Najib.
As a PM that is calling for the abolition of fake news, I call upon him to take action against these media. In fact, I demand that these unscrupulous media retract their unfounded and malicious statements, or face the consequences.
Those reports are extremely misleading, as they imply that the said condition applies throughout the board, namely for all properties!
This Penang State Government indeed will ensure that the said condition is applied for purchasers of low cost, low medium cost and affordable housing in Penang, whereby this condition will continue to be applied to purchasers of premises beyond such low cost (RM42,000), low medium cost (RM72,500) and affordable housing (RM300,000) price ceiling currently set by the Penang State Government, so as to ensure that only eligible Penangites can gain access to such public affordable housing!.
Kindly report the truth.
This Penang State Government will continue to impose the condition that low cost, low medium cost and affordable housing units are to be pririotise, not only in terms of stock, but also in terms of delivery, to Penangites first.
THIS PENANG STATE GOVERNMENT WILL PRIORITES PENANGITES FIRST.
I further challenge the Prime Minister to verify his statement that there are apparently 4,652 units of affordable housing being built by PR1MA under their affordable housing programme. Show me if even one unit has even been built to-date.
In fact, I call upon the Prime Minister to reconsider the decision by the Federal Government to allow the price increase for low cost housing from from RM42,000 to RM60,000 and low medium cost housing from RM72,500 to RM100,000.
As it is, the lower income group cannot even access these housing due to the extremely high loan rejection rate by banks, what more if you increase the prices of such low and low medium cost units?
I also challenge the Prime Minister to address the issue of this high loan rejection rate.
Your own party, UMNO which is the OPPOSITION in Penang, in fact, agreed that this is an issue that has to be addressed, whereby a Joint Motion between the Penang Pakatan State Government, together with the UMNO-BN Opposition, had in fact sent you a motion way back in February last year, after it was agreed to be done in the Penang State Assembly in November, 2016.
We are now nearing the end of the first quarter of 2018, that is some nearly 16 months since even your party agreed with us on this issue of the high loan rejection rate. Clearly even your members want answers, but unfortunately you have not responded.
This Penang State Government will continue to prioritise the need to ensure adequate affordable housing is delivered for the PEOPLE OF PENANG.
To-date, 75,631 of low cost, low medium cost and various types of affordable housing have been built (25,555), is being built (19,828) and has been approved to be built (29,978).
This is unlike the Federal Government that during the period of 1999 to 2007 only managed to deliver some 5,154 of low and low medium cost housing, and to-date which has failed to physically complete yet even one unit of PR1MA.
Where the Federal Government has failed we will succeed in ensuring the delivery of affordable housing in Penang,
FOR PENANGITES FIRST!
