Understand the reason behind Tanjung Piai defeat, says Penang PH council chairman
Known for his honesty and straightforwardness, Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) council chairman Chow Kon Yeow said that Harapan’s huge loss in the Tanjung Piai by-election was totally unexpected.
“I believed that a defeat was expected, but not with such a huge vote majority.
“The PH coalition needs to take necessary actions to regain the people’s trust.
“This is something that we have to take note.
“The coalition has to analyse the by-election result and understand the reason behind the defeat.
“We need to take necessary actions to address the situation.
“Perhaps the voters were really supporting Barisan Nasional; or were they expressing their unhappiness and dissatisfaction towards the Harapan government?
“We have to do a post-mortem, find out the reason and take the appropriate actions,” Chow told reporters after officiating the Seminar & Book Launch – ‘From Free Port to Modern Economy: Economic Development and Social Change in Penang,1969 to 1990’ at Penang Institute in George Town today.
Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng won the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat with a huge 15,086-vote majority defeating five other candidates.
PH candidate Karmaine Sardini obtained 10,380 votes.
