Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has unveiled the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), a RM611 billion plan to propel the country into the world’s top 30 economies within five years. We are at 37 today.
Can we achieve that? Skeptics call it impossible. But history is never made by skeptics.
The 13MP is a declaration of our national intent. Better highways, public transports, ports, and rails. Stronger defences against floods. Affordable homes for families. Schools that prepare our children for a changing world. Hospitals with shorter waiting time.
The goals are instructive, grow our GDP, raise incomes, create jobs, keep prices stable, slash poverty, and reduce the deficit.
And here is why the 13MP is a vision than a mere dream.
In just two years, under Anwar’s leadership, Malaysia’s trade has reached RM2.9 trillion, the highest in our history. Investment in the country’s future has surged, with RM352 billion poured into infrastructure, machinery, and technology. Unemployment? Just 3% in April this year, the lowest in ten years.
Last year alone, approved investments hit RM378 billion, bringing over 207,000 jobs. Our stock market led Southeast Asia in IPO performance in the first half of this year. The Ringgit was Asia’s best-performing currency in 2024 and is now among the world’s top 20.
We climbed 11 spots to 23rd in the World Competitiveness Ranking and stand 4th globally in economic performance. The World Bank says we will reach high-income status within five years. The International Monetary Fund, the Asian Development Bank, and Moody’s Ratings are praising Malaysia. Moody’s even projects us as the fastest-growing A-rated economy for the next two years.
These are not just numbers. They are indicators showing that with the right leadership, Malaysia can surge forward.
Yes, the world is uncertain, threatened by actual and potential hot war, cold war, and trade war. Our own domestic politics can turn messy. But true leaders do not wait for calm seas. They navigate the storm. And Anwar Ibrahim is doing just that, with clarity and vision.
The 13MP is more than building bricks and mortar. It is the building of resilience. It is the restoration of our national dignity. It is the shaping of a Malaysia that can stand tall among the world’s leading countries.
Can we achieve that? Pessimists will still mutter “no.” But those who believe in our potential, grounded in the collective achievement above, would answer, “Yes, we will.”
The vision is here. The leadership is here. The momentum is real. Malaysia’s moment is now. And the only question left is, will we rise with it?
