Semakan terhadap Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) adalah amat digalakkan kerana KWSP menguruskan dana persaraan rakyat. Namun, semakan perlu berasaskan fakta tetapi dakwaan Presiden MCA, Wee Ka Siong, terhadap pengurusan KWSP lebih bersandarkan hindsight bias, bukannya fakta.
KWSP Hilang Duit?
(Sumber: Dakwaan Wee Ka Siong: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BuHKnTLSf/)
(Sumber: Dakwaan Wee Ka Siong: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/15mZXNBRnc/)
(Bahagian 4, muka surat 69).
(Sumber: https://www.kwsp.gov.my/documents/d/guest/6-epf_iar23-performance)
Mengabaikan Prinsip Asas Pelaburan
(Sumber: Dakwaan Wee Ka Siong: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1XfRtwdSwG/)
Prinsip asas pelaburan menyatakan bahawa prestasi masa lalu bukan jaminan prestasi masa depan (past performance is no guarantee of future results).
(past performance cannot predict how an investment strategy will perform in the future).
(Sumber: https://www.investor.gov/introduction-investing/general-resources/news-alerts/alerts-bulletins/investor-bulletins-47)

TAMAT
EPF, Hindsight Bias, and Misinformed Scrutiny
Public scrutiny of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is not only welcome, it is necessary as it oversees our citizens’ retirement fund. But scrutiny must be grounded in facts. MCA President Wee Ka Siong’s recent allegations made against EPF’s financial decisions relied more on hindsight bias than on facts.
EPF lost money?
Wee claims that EPF lost between RM539 million and RM686 million by selling Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) shares, only to repurchase them later at a higher price.
(Source: Wee Ka Siong’s allegation: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BuHKnTLSf/)
This argument is a textbook example of hindsight bias—the belief that an outcome was predictable all along, when in reality, it was not.
EPF’s investment decisions are made based on available data at the time. Traders allocate capital dynamically, not with the benefit of foresight. The fund recorded a net investment income of RM63.48 billion—hardly a sign of mismanagement.
A Manufactured Contradiction
Wee also alleges that the Minister of Finance II provided conflicting figures on EPF’s investment income, suggesting that the fund only recently clarified the difference between gross investment income (RM66.99 billion) and net income (RM63.48 billion).
(Source: Wee Ka Siong’s allegation: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/15mZXNBRnc/)
This is demonstrably untrue. EPF’s 2023 Annual Report—published last year—clearly stated these figures (section 4, page 69).
(Source: https://www.kwsp.gov.my/documents/d/guest/6-epf_iar23-performance)
Had the MCA President consulted the primary data before making accusations, he would have seen that no contradiction exists. The primary data in this case is in EPF’s comprehensive 2023 Annual Report. Wee has misled the public by presenting a manufactured contradiction.
Ignoring the Basics of Investing
Wee further argues that EPF should have held onto MAHB shares because the company’s revenue was improving. But investment decisions are not based solely on past performance.
(Source: Wee Ka Siong’s allegation: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1XfRtwdSwG/)
A fundamental principle of investment states: past performance is no guarantee of future results. This is why Bursa Malaysia printed this axiom in their Sectorial Index Series reports, repeatedly warning investors against assuming that historical trends will continue indefinitely.
Similarly, the US Securities and Exchange Commission has also pointed out in their bulletin that “past performance cannot predict how an investment strategy will perform in the future.”
(Source: https://www.investor.gov/introduction-investing/general-resources/news-alerts/alerts-bulletins/investor-bulletins-47)
Wee ignores this principle by using past performance to argue EPF’s decision was wrong. This basis is logically flawed, as noted by Bursa Malaysia and the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Trading and Privatisation Are Separate Matters
Wee also appears to conflate EPF’s trading activities with the privatisation of MAHB. The two are distinct.
EPF operates under a strict Chinese Wall policy, ensuring investment decisions remain independent of policy discussions to prevent conflicts of interest and insider trades. Suggesting otherwise misrepresents how institutional investments function.

Irresponsible Criticism
Holding EPF accountable is necessary. But criticism should be based on rigorous analysis, not misinterpretation. By failing to check primary data and relying on hindsight speculation and flawed logic, the MCA President’’s claims are ultimately a nuisance.
If he wishes to position himself as a credible critic, he must first learn to do thorough research by reading primary sources, correct his biases, and avoid using flawed logic.
