The ongoing road widening and drainage upgrade project in Jalan Kulim in Bukit Mertajam is expected to be completed by Aug 19.
Berapit assemblywoman Sdri Heng Lee Lee said the project involving 304 metres stretch of road opposite Taman Tenang was part of the master plan to develop the whole 7.7km stretch of Jalan Kulim. It is undertaken by Belmont Group of Companies.
“The upgrade is to widen Jalan Kulim from the existing two lanes to four, to accommodate the increase of traffic in the area.
“We also have to take care of the coming St Anne celebrations which will start in July, where numerous stalls will be set up along Jalan Kulim confronting the church.
“For this, the stretch of road will be resurfaced with a layer of sand and vinyl core,” Sdri Heng told a press conference held on May 30 at the GTM Property’s office in Jalan Kulim.
