Press Statement by Lee Wei Seang (National Organizing Secretary of the Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) and the chief of Penang’s DAPSY), 26 June 2020:
DAP’s unwavering support for Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim
No question over DAP’s support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister. DAP has done so in the past decades, DAP has done so during ‘Langkah Sheraton’ episode, and DAP is still doing so now.
It is delusional and ahistorical for others to make counter-claims over DAP’s commitment to fight for Anwar’s premiership.
In fact, the reason that DAP and AMANAH are supporting Tun Mahathir as the Prime Minister candidate for 6 months is to pave the way for Anwar to assume the top job.
This is stated clearly by Saudara Lim Guan Eng (secretary-general of DAP) and Saudara Mohamad Sabu (president of AMANAH) in their joint-statement issued four days ago, 22nd June 2020:
“We have been consistently supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister of Malaysia since 1 998 and will continue to do so. Based on the current political scenario, the only realistic option of success is to combine the strength of all 5 parties of PKR, Amanah and DAP in PH as well as Warisan and Tun’s Bersatu. This political journey has taken 22 years, we can afford to wait another 6 months to see Datuk Seri Anwar installed as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia. The 6 months transition shall be documented in writing, signed by all party leaders and publicly announced.”
What is the point of the joint-statement if not to provide a clear picture to the Rakyat, PH supporters, and all PH leaders and members that DAP and AMANAH are supporting Anwar?
As stated in the joint-statement, both leaders of DAP and AMANAH have explained the calculated steps as the strategy for the transition to allow Anwar to lead the country.
DAP has never wavered in supporting Anwar. It is very unfortunate that political commenters are trying to spin it in grotesque ways that are counter-factual, making wild and untruthful allegation on DAP’s integrity, like the article by James Chai (‘How DAP lost principles, votes and friends by choosing Dr M,’ 23 June 2020). Either they are trying to be controversial or they are simply shutting their eyes to all the obvious and public declarations made with regard to DAP’s unwavering support for Anwar.
