Contribute positive energy, remain hopeful & resilient as we celebrate Deepavali: EXCO Chong Eng

PRESS STATEMENT BY YB CHONG ENG
STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCILLOR FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT & RELIGIONS OTHER THAN ISLAM
ON 2 NOVEMBER 2021:

Deepavali is a festival of light, a celebration that marks the triumph of good over evil.

As we are just out of a nationwide lockdown, in some way, this is also a sign of victory over the Covid-19 pandemic.

Everyone will be taking the opportunity to celebrate this festival of light in their own ways during this weekend while we should still need to comply with strict standard operating procedures to guard ourselves against the resurgence of Covid-19 pandemic.

Deepavali is the first festival after lockdown and as we rejoice at regaining freedom in mobility, a grand celebration perhaps can only be held when we arrive at phase four of the National Recovery Plan.

Currently Penang is still at phase three of the National Recovery Plan, together with Perak, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak.
Nevertheless regardless of which phase we are in, bear in mind that everyone is a candle.

Light up your candle to fill the world with brightness as we celebrate the occasion.

Each of us should contribute positive energy to ourselves, to the people around us and to the world, for it to be a better world.

We should remain hopeful and resilient, regardless of the situation we are in now.

As we unite as one, this will generate courage and strength for us to tackle the challenges we face.

Political differences aside, national interests should come first.

We also hope that the light that everyone can shed some light into the state elections in Malacca first then Sarawak as fresh mandates are to be sought.

The state elections in Malacca and Sarawak will be crucial tests to gauge how firm we are to uphold democracy and justice to be a clean and corrupt-free country.

Let the voters send their message through the votes to decide the next path for Malaysia.
