The Penang Chief Minister’s office regrets that the New Straits Times has continued to publishing letters written by BN spin masters that has a clear agenda to support BN by undermining the state government with deceit and lies. At the same time the New Straits Times have refused to give a clear undertaking that they will give the Penang state government the right to reply over distorted or untrue news published.

For instance, NST has refused to publish my explanation over Penang’s refusal to give a guarantee of 1,000 electrical and electronic engineers for a USD 3 billion investment in 2008, because of fears of Penang facing similar financial implications as the Federal government guarantees to the Port Klang Free Trade Zone that caused the RM 12.5 billion scandal.

I REFER to the The Edge Financial Daily article by Ong Eu Soon “Please stop indiscriminate land conversion”. I wish to draw to your attention that the law relating to foreshore land as stated in the National Land Code is upheld and is not affected by the conversion of PDC Heritage Hotel Sdn Bhd’s (PHH) land to freehold status. Clearly, Ong Eu Soon was barking up the wrong tree and going off tangent in his baseless tirade against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government.

The Penang state government and Gerakan continued bickering over the decision to turn down a US$3bil (RM10.1bil) investment deal because the state government could not guarantee 1,000 electric and electronic (E&E) engineers required by the company.

In a statement yesterday, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s special investment officer Jeffrey Chew lashed out at Gerakan for using hit-and-run tactics and practising a “promise first hope later” attitude.
