Two days before Pakatan Rakyat celebrates its second anniversary of its takeover of Penang, the state government announced that it has moved to restore local government elections.
The local election will involve two municipal councils – the Municipal Council of Penang Island (MPPP) and Municipal Council of Seberang Perai (MPSP).
We are inviting you to join us the English FORUM on ” Implikasi GST Kepada Rakyat” this Monday 8th March, 2010 at 8:00 pm. This forum is organized by Penang Pakatan Rakyat Secretarial.
The details are as below:
DAPSY Penang fully support the proposal to introduce sex education into regular school curriculum. One of the main objectives is to nurture young people to understand, and therefore respect their own sexuality and the sexuality of the opposite gender. On the other hand, facts and knowledge about sexual activity could also empower our young people against sexual predators and the negative consequences of unprotected sex.
All Penang PR Wakil Rakyats are willing to be sued by Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng for defending and upholding CAT principles. The real reason that Tan Tee Beng left PKR was his unhappiness in not being appointed for positions in PBA, and his various demands that were not CAT-compliant.
So far, Tan Tee Beng has failed to apologise to PR and Nibong Tebal voters for failing to support Penang PR Government’s CAT principles of Competency, Accountability & Transparency and instead threatened to sue Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr. P. Ramasamy & Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi.
I fully support the latest campaign by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) to call the Government to increase maternity leave for working women in Malaysia to 90 days from the current 60 days.
The demand for 90 days is in compliance with the standard set by the International Labour Organization (ILO). Presently, Asian countries such as our ASEAN neighbours Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and countries such as China, Korea, India and Iran all adhere to the 90-day ILO standard. The Pakatan Rakyat State Government of Selangor has also implemented the 90-day maternity leave since 2009.
A full turnout of the top brass of Pakatan Rakyat’s Penang contingent at Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s open house at Komtar Walk yesterday doused hopes that the insurgency of Zahrain Mohd Hashim was gaining ground.
The leading figures in the state PKR and PAS ranks, led by Deputy Chief Minister Mansor Othman and Mohd Sallehman respectively, backed by lesser lights from both parties, turned up early at the function which was graced by governor Abdul Rahman Abbas.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng struck out today at those he described as a small ‘racist’ segment of people who he claimed had selectively disclosed documents to suggest his government had cancelled the ‘Maulidur Rasul’ (Prophet Muhammad’s birthday) procession.
Penang Pakatan leaders came out in full force last night to fight accusations that the state government had sidelined the Malay community and issued a challenge to Umno to a debate on the issue.
The challenge was issued at Pakatan’s ‘Anti-Slander’ public forum held last night at the Pesta Tapak Expo in Seberang Jaya, which was attended by more than 1,000 people.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today denied a report that his government has cancelled this year’s Prophet Muhammad’s birthday procession.
“It’s a lie, it’s a lie, it’s a lie,” he told Malaysiakini in response to the report in Utusan Malaysia that the procession had been cancelled by the state government.
Bayan Baru member of parliament Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim’s reasons for leaving PKR is clearly due to his self-admitted private interests and personal unhappiness over my refusal to fulfil his requests in the Island Golf Properties Sdn Bhd(IGP). Zahrain had begun his statement outlining his reasons for quitting all positions in PKR and becoming an independent MP by repeating his false allegations that he was removed as Chairman of IGP even though I have immediately rebutted yesterday that this is not true. PDC has informed me that no letter has been sent by either PDC or IGP to any director of IGP, including Zahrain of any changes. Zahrain has been the Chairman and Director of Island Golf Properties Bhd since 9th July 2008.
The Penang Pakatan Rakyat state government wishes all Penangnites a Happy Chinese New Year in the Year of the Tiger. Just as a tiger is part of the cat family, Penang PR government has adopted the CAT philosophy of Competency, Accountability and Transparency. CAT is an integrity and performance-based mechanism to drive the identified sectors of education, economy and social welfare, which will determine the success of transforming Penang into an international city for all.
A police report has been made against the Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMMPP) for allegedly making a false statement against the Penang government.
Datuk Keramat state assembly person Jagdeep Singh Deo said DPMMPP had claimed that the state government discriminated against Malay traders.
“The statement by DPMMPP is a lie aimed at fanning racial sentiments. Local government and traffic management committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow had explained that it was based on statistics from local authorities,” Jagdeep was quoted as saying by Bernama.
The assemblyman for Tanjung Bungah, where a popular stretch of beach recently suffered severe erosion due to bizarre tides, has warned that many other coastal areas in Penang face even more serious erosion.
Teh Yee Cheu said today similar geological problems had also been detected in Batu Ferringhi and Tanjung Tokong and may be caused by reclamation, but did not exclude other factors like global warming and climate change.
Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng, who recently hit out at Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, had never raised the issue of getting yearly constituency allocations for small development projects in his constituency with Lim.
Penang Deputy Chief Minister 2 Prof P Ramasamy said Tan was in fact a foe of the CAT (competency, accountability and transparency) governance in Penang.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in his capacity as Penang Development Corporation(PDC) Board Chairman has directed PDC to reveal the chronology of events relating to the proposed privatization of operations in the Bukit Jambul Country Club(BJCC). BJCC is run by Island Golf Properties Bhd(IGP), a PDC owned subsidiary company. Bayan Baru MP Dato Seri Zahrain has been the Chairman and Director of Island Golf Properties Bhd since 9th July 2008. Information supplied from PDC is as follows:-
Penang Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng will be visiting South Korea and Hong Kong from 1st – 3rd February 2010.
While in South Korea, the Chief Minister will meet South Korean leading LED (LightEmitting Diode) companies who are keen to invest in Penang . South Korea is being earmarked as one of the key potential major investors in Penang in the areas of business, tourism, ICT and manufacturing.
The state government is not allowed to give any allocation to Members of Parliament (MPs) and if it does so, it would be in trouble with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Deputy Chief Minister II (DCM II) Dr P. Ramasamy said the state only gives allocations to assemblymen.
“I receive an allocation from the state in my capacity as DCM II and as Prai assemblyman, but no allocation is given to me as Batu Kawan MP,” he told a press conference here Monday.
Middle Malaysia is about taking the middle ground where the vast majority of Malaysians stand, while leaving our political enemies to take the extremist positions on either side of the divide. This must be achieved by threading the middle path of inclusiveness, equal opportunities and by ending discrimination.
As the Secretary-General said, Middle Malaysia prefers co-operation not conflict, consultation instead of confrontation and an inclusive shared society rather than an exclusive separate society. A shared society is one that celebrates diversity and assures everyone a place in society by guaranteeing…
Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang today lauded Penang for being the first state to hand in its annual accounts for auditing for the last three consecutive years.
He said if the accounts had the required supporting documents for the Audit Department to conduct its work, it would signify new milestone in efficiency.
He urged departments, statutory bodies and agencies to emulate the state government, and for the state Finance Office and Treasurer to provide guidance to them for improvement.
DAP chairperson Karpal Singh, who was left confined to a wheelchair following a road accident, said while he may be disabled, his party however stands strong.
“I may be seated, but the members are strongly behind me,” the renowned lawyer and veteran politician added to a thunderous applause during the DAP national convention in Ipoh.
Karpal was referring to the remark made by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) lawyer Abdul Razak Musa.
