2012 New Year Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng

2012 New Year Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 31 December 2011.
Let Us Embrace A Future Of A Cleaner, Greener & Safer Penang That Rewards Those Who Works Hard, Works Honestly And Works Smart.
For nearly 225 years since Penang first appeared on the world map, the fortunes of Penang has risen and fallen. Penang has prospered when we realise that for a state without any natural resources, we need to rely our human resources and develop human talent. Penang has declined when we forget that it is the energy, expertise and entrepreneurship of our people that makes Penang so unique.

Guan Eng wins defamation suit against Utusan

The Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia has been found to have defamed Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in a report headlined ‘Kebiadapan Guan Eng’, published on Dec 20 last year. The Penang High Court today ordered the publisher to pay Lim RM200,000 in damages, and RM25,000 as costs.

Prove It or Issue the Death Cert for 1Malaysia!

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s should prove with facts his hostile warning to innocent non-Malays not to antagonise the Malays failing which he might as well issue the Death Certificate for 1Malaysia. Najib shocked the nation by playing the race card against non-Malays when in a speech to the Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia’s (Pekida) in Shah Alam last night, he warned that the non-Malays must not “cuit” (antagonise) the feelings of Malays and not change what has already been decided upon and discussed.

Guan Eng on warpath with tourism minister

Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen has been chided for not doing her homework when criticising the state government over the RM5 million failed carpark at the foot of Penang Hill.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the minister was always ‘‘blaming him’’ for the project dubbed ‘Kancil Carpark’ although it was approved under the previous state government.

Najib’s New Army Of Cyber Troopers With A History Of Dirty Tricks Is Proof That The 13th General Election Will Be The Dirtiest Election Yet

Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak has said that he will defend Putrajaya at all costs, even if it requires “crushed bodies and lost lives”. Now, with Najib’s launch of BN’s new “cyber army”, are we seeing the manifestation of doing whatever it takes to maintain power?

In launching the 1Malaysia Social Media Volunteers, or myVO1CE, Najib has effectively given pro-BN cyber troopers “official recognition”, going so far as to call them a new army for the party in the virtual world. In his speech, Najib signalled a rallying call saying, “Bring out your iPads, iPhones, Blackberries and laptops. These are our weapons as the cyber warriors.”

State projects RM214mil deficit

The Pakatan Rakyat-led state government has budgeted for a deficit of RM213.71mil next year.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the deficit was expected as RM332.93mil was set aside for several major projects.

Among the expenses incurred are for land acquisition, housing projects and development for the community, agriculture and rural sectors.

Karpal: CM could’ve been jailed over Kg Buah Pala

Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh said today that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng could have been jailed if he defied the Federal Court decision for the residents to vacate the village in 2009.

The Federal Court in Aug, 2009, stood by its June 24 decision that the Kg Buah Pala residents must vacate their homes and hand over the property to the developer who had obtained approval to redevelop the area.

Air Asia – MAS tie-up: Thousands of Malaysians frustrated by GLC cartel

Member of Parliament for Johore Baru Datuk Seri Shahrir Samad this week complained in parliament that MAS subsidiary Firefly has cancelled considerable number of flights from Senai Airport to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Surabaya, Bandung and Bangkok following the MAS-Air Asia collaboration. He stressed that thousands of people who had booked seats on these flights were extremely dismayed.

The MAS-Air Asia Comprehensive Collaboration Framework announced on 9 August is indeed proving to be terrible for Malaysian consumers and air travellers, as I had warned.

Penang CM: Action on state rep if land not inherited

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng refuted allegations that a DAP assemblyperson acquired a piece of land against the Pakatan Rakyat’s CAT (competency, accountability and transparency) policies on state land ownership.

Lim said Padang Lallang assemblyperson Tan Cheong Heng (left), who is in the centre of the controversy, does indeed own a piece of land, and a 60 year lease extension on it had been recently approved by the State Land and Mineral (SLM) Department.

Will The Prime Minister Apologise Over The Flip-Flop Whether He Is Going To Abolish Bumi Quotas Or Ask The Press To Correct Their False Reporting?

Will the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak apologise over the flip-flop whether he is going to abolish bumi quotas or ask the press to correct their false reporting? The Prime Minister was reported by Malaysiakini on 27 September and in Bernama on 28 September 2011 that that there was a need to “run or go away” from quotas for Bumiputeras.

However on 30.9.2011 Friday, Najib insisted that he absolutely did not say that bumi quotas will be abolished. Since Bernama had reported on the need to “run or go away” from bumi quotas, will action then be taken against Bernama or any other BN-controlled paper for false reporting? As it is hard to imagine a government news department like Bernama daring to misquote or misrepresent what the Prime Minister said, will the Prime Minister be compelled to apologise for saying the wrong thing?

Beware of unscrupulous salesmen, says Phee

PENANG does not endorse nor approve the use of any polystyrene or non-biodegradable containers that are deemed harmful for the environment.

State Health, Welfare, Caring So-ciety and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said that several hawkers had told him that some unidentified salesmen were trying to sell ‘biodegradable polystyrene’ containers, claiming that they were approved by the state government.

THE state government may reject applications by housing developers to pay premium in the event they could not build low medium-cost (LMC) and low-cost (LC) units.

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the state might reject such applications if they were to involve squatters and relocation issues which were yet to be resolved.

Open Letter (en) to BERNAMA from Penang Chief Minister’s Office

Inquiry panel to be set up

THE Penang Government plans to set up a special inquiry committee to probe into the controversial ‘Kancil car park’ at the foot of Penang Hill.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the committee should be set up to determine the ones responsible for the “weakness” in the project so that action could be taken against them.

‘Wasting time’ accusations delay CM’s turn to testify

A defamation suit by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng against a Malay daily turned tense after the lawyers from both sides accused each other of wasting the High Court’s time.

Lim, who arrived at the court at 9am, only testified after waiting for more than two hours while objections were raised by his counsel before Judicial Commissioner Nurmala Salim.

DAP supports Palestinian statehood

The DAP stands in support of current efforts by Mahmoud Abbas, as leader of the Palestinian Authority, to seek full membership for a Palestinian State at the United Nations.

But we also believe that the quest for statehood through legal means must be accompanied by actual concrete changes on the part of the Israeli authority.

Liew Chin Tong’s statement on Denmark election

The Democratic Action Party of Malaysia extends its warmest congratulations to the Social Democratic Party of Denmark for their hard earned electoral victory.

2011 Merdeka Message by DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng

Only When We Are Malaysian First Then Can We Build A Future For Our Young And Our Young For The Future.
We have achieved some economic progress since our beloved first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, thundered the glorious word Merdeka seven times in Stadium Merdeka in 1957. But as much progress as we have made, one cannot help but think of the lost opportunities and the many areas where we have regressed.

Show Proof or Explain for the RM300 Million Loss

Penang PR state government will not be distracted by baseless accusations and lies but will instead press for BN to come clean on BN’s RM300 million scandals on land scams, Pulau Jerejak and mismanagement of MPSP funds. To-date BN has refused to account and explain for the RM300 million loss in public funds

Penang DAP headquarters splashed with orange and red paint

The signboard and the entrance door at the Penang DAP headquarters in Jalan Talipon here and an assemblyman’s service centre were found splashed with red and orange paint.

Neighbours discovered the incident Sunday morning and alerted Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary Ng Wei Aik, who is also Komtar assemblyman.

Mismah-gate: EC’s denial casts further doubts on veracity of electoral roll

The Election Commission Chairman Abdul Aziz Yusof’s response to the Mismah-gate shocker is inadequate and unacceptable because it is based purely on speculation without facts. Abdul Aziz’s official explanation that the NRD fails to inform the public including millions of Malaysian voters how such a scandalous blunder could have happened.

Instead of imagining petty excuses for the National Registration Department, the EC is duty-bound to ensure the veracity of the nation’s electoral rolls. This incident has demonstrated the chronic lack of coordination between government departments, which severely impacts public confidence in the sanctity of our elections.

Reform of taxis, public transport is political

Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) Chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar was reported as saying that public transport should be depoliticised, as “it is not for the opposition to determine that public transportation is efficient (or otherwise).”

I disagree. Public transport (or the lack of it) should be at the top of our political agenda.

Penang CMship: Let’s not be trapped by UMNO’s Blatant Lies!

So UMNO has declared that even if the party secures a majority in the Penang State Assembly, they will not be pursuing the post of the Penang Chief Minister.

It seems rather odd that they would resort to that statement when just a few years ago, then-UMNO youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin suggested that the Penang Chief Minister’s post be rotated amongst the parties of the state Barisan Nasional.

Ironically that was what the Sabah Barisan Nasional did until the post got to UMNO’s turn, then the rotation stopped and UMNO has been a permanent resident of the Sabah Chief Ministership ever since.

This is the game the UMNO always play. Their goal is to dominate every state in Malaysia eventually. The 2 states without an UMNO Chief Minister or Menteri Besar is Penang and Sarawak. UMNO is looking into making inroads in these 2 states eventually.

Press Statement: EO Detention of PSM six an act of cruelty

I view with great concern the circumstances in which Dr Jeyakumar has had little choice but to voice his protest through a hunger strike. I would like to respond to the Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar’s claims that the six PSM members detained under the Emergency Ordinance are being “well taken care of”. This is another lie by the authorities. I urge that the six, including Sungai Siput MP Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj, be released immediately and unconditionally.
