No Police Permit Needed for State Government Events
Statement by Y.B. Ng Wei Aik, Political Secretary to Penang Chief
Minister and State Assemblyman for KOMTAR on 28th of June, 2011
(Tuesday) at Georgetown, Penang:
No Police Permit Needed for State Government Events
The Penang State Government wishes to clarify with the CPO of Penang
that the event held simultaneously at the Pesta Site (Tapak Pesta) in
Sungai Nibong and Seberang Jaya Expo Grounds (Tapak Ekspo) on
Thursday, June the 30th is a State Government event and will be held
on State Government premises and therefore no police permit will be
required for the event.
This programme is called “Malam Penerangan Kerajaan Negeri Pulau
Pinang” or “The Penang State Government Communication Evening” and
speakers will be speaking on a variety of issues. This programme is an
OFFICIAL Penang State Government function and the police should
respect that by providing protection to the attendees.
If the Federal Government under Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is sincere
about reforming the nation, he will allow this nation to proceed
without interruptions from the police who should be out performing
their duties as crime fighters. Police have a special place in
Malaysian society and it is the wish of the Penang State Government
that they professionally carry out their duties so as not to be seen
as “weapons” of the Federal Government.
The Penang State Government encourages the people to attend this event
freely as it is their right to attend a State Government’s sanctioned
event. The Penang State Government requests that the Royal Malaysian
Police would provide protection for the attendees of the event should
any provocateurs try to incite racial or religious hatred.
