DAP Condemns Police Action over anti-Rare Earth Protest

The DAP Penang condemns the arrest of DAP Pahang Publicity Secretary Chow Yu Hui, Organising Secretary Lee Chin Chen as well as Khor Huey Ying and Thing Siew Shuen, DAP Penang Environment Bureau Chief in a draconian display of the fact that Malaysia has indeed become a police state.

DAP Penang calls for their immediate release with apologies from the police and the Home Minister. When the government refuses to even listen to the protests of its people, then it shows that Barisan Nasional is all out to achieve only one thing which is “profit through power”.

It is already proven that these rare-earth plants are dangerous because of the radioactive toxic elements associated with it. Australia has even prohibited that the plant be built on Australian soil, why then is the plant allowed to be built on Malaysian soil? Are the lives of Malaysians less valuable than those of Australians?

The DAP Penang also condemns the police for forcing those who were arrested to undergo a urine test which shouldn’t even be required. Are the 4 DAP members accused of being drug addicts? Or is the government trying to accuse them of something to prevent a backlash of public opinion and justify their arrests?

With recent accusations of blatant lies such as the “Christian State” issue, everyone is convinced that the BN government is so thoroughly corrupt and is willing to go to extreme lows to stay in power.

The actions of the police also shows that the country under BN is headed towards the model of Nazi Germany. With the existence of racist organizations like PERKASA and the government’s obvious support of the ethnic divide, the country will soon resemble the dark era of the Third Reich.

Why isn’t the police taking action against Utusan Malaysia, PERKASA and UMNO? When these organizations have blatantly preached racist theology in an attempt to create ethnic violence? Why are the police only targeting peaceful protestors?

DAP Penang wants the people of Malaysia to judge for themselves. The BN government has shown that is is willing to destroy the country for their own gains. And they arrest the people who are actually fighting for Malaysians. This is UMNO’s way of telling Malaysians, “We can do whatever we like and you can’t do anything about it!”
