CM’s aide lodges report over fake photo
GEORGE TOWN: The political secretary of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has lodged a police report over the online circulation of a picture depicting Lim slaughtering a cow.
Ng Wei Aik, who is also the state DAP Youth secretary, claimed the picture was doctored to cause racial and religious tension.
Tanjung PAS chief Yacoob Omar accompanied Ng to make the report at the Patani Road police station here yesterday.
Ng said the original photograph was that of former Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin taking part in a sacrificial ritual (korban) to mark Aidiladha at a mosque in Sitiawan on Dec 10 last year.
The doctored version, however, had a superimposed image of Lim carrying out the slaughter.
An online article reported on Tuesday that the picture was being circulated on the Internet with the caption: “Are we willing to see this happen?”.
Ng told newsmen after lodging the report that the picture was meant to confuse the rakyat and to incite hatred between Muslims and non-Muslims.
Yacoob said it was not right for a non-Muslim to take part in the religious slaughter.
“It’s very unfortunate that an irresponsible person is fanning religious sentiments during the holy month of Ramadan.
“If one day Lim embraces Islam, he can then take part in the religious event,” he added.

I would like to ask Polis DiRaja Malaysia and MCMC, why until today, we have not hear any outcome of police investigation on this issue whereas police report against PR was immediately looked into like as in the recent case of Penang councillors’ issue where Parti Cinta Malaysia lodged a report and George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said police would refer the matter to Interpol and the Malaysian High Commission in the republic. The case of fake photo was more urgent and could create religious tension compared to the Penang councillors case.
