DAP starts fund collection drive for new Penang HQ
GEORGE TOWN (Aug 1, 2010): In a bid to solidify its position in the state, the DAP has launched a RM2.2 million fund collection drive for the party’s new Penang headquarters.
The new headquarters will occupy an existing four-storey building on Rangoon Road that will require extensive renovation, including installation of ICT facilities and an elevator.

The centre is expected to bolster the party’s preparation and provide an operations venue for the next general election.
The total cost of purchasing and preparing the building is RM3.2 million, state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said at the launch of the fund-raising campaign today.
The party has collected RM1 million from a special dinner it had hosted in 2008, and now plans to raise the rest of the money by the end of this year or latest by June next year, he said.
The sales and purchase agreement for the building was signed last Friday, he added.
Chow explained that some RM200,000 would be obtained through DAP’s internal sourcing, with elected representatives like MPs and assemblymen, as well as appointed ones like the chief minister, executive councillors and municipal councillors, all giving one month’s salary each.
An additional RM300,000 is expected from members of the party’s parliament liaison committee and individual members, who will be asked to provide at least RM1,000 each; while another RM100,000 would be obtained through other internal means.
