Penang Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng will be visiting Singapore on 2nd – 4th June 2010 to attend the Penang Outlook Forum organized by ISEAS (Institute of SouthEast Asian Studies) and SERI (Socio Economic Research Institute).
The inaugural Penang Outlook Forum was held in George Town, Penang on 1st – 2nd June 2009 and this year’s forum focus will be “Penang in Asia” will be held at ISEAS, Singapore. This forum hopes to provide a platform for the assessment of Penang’s past achievement, capabilities and future growth potential where The Chief Minister of Penang will be the keynote speaker.
The Chief Minister will be attending a “Penang Diaspora Dinner” at Tanglin Club with 100 guests who are Penangites working in Singapore. This dinner is organized by the Old Frees’ Association in Singapore and will be attended by other alumni from Chung Ling High School and St. Xavier’s Institution. During the dinner, The Chief Minister will tout the achievements of his government and future challenges for Penang to overcome and to develop into a high-income economy. Nurturing of human talent by training, retraining existing talent and attracting new talent is crucial ingredient to escape the middle income trap.
On the 4th June 2010, The Chief Minister will also be officiating the launching of the Penang Investment and Tourism Office located at Beach Road (E&O Properties Ptd.Ltd). The setting up of PITO will help Penang to reach out to the potential investors from all over the world especially Singapore. This office is the first state in Malaysia to set up an investment & tourism promotion office overseas.
The Chief Minister will be accompanied by YB. Liew Chin Tong, Executive Director for SERI and MP for Bukit Bendera, Yang Berbahagia Dato Lee Kah Choon, Executive Chairman for InvestPenang, Miss Loo Lee Lian , General Manager for InvestPenang and Jeffrey Chew, Special Officer to the Chief Minister (Investment/Manufacturing).
