Sedaq: False statement report lodged

A police report has been made against the Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMMPP) for allegedly making a false statement against the Penang government.

Datuk Keramat state assembly person Jagdeep Singh Deo said DPMMPP had claimed that the state government discriminated against Malay traders.

“The statement by DPMMPP is a lie aimed at fanning racial sentiments. Local government and traffic management committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow had explained that it was based on statistics from local authorities,” Jagdeep was quoted as saying by Bernama.

He asked police to investigate the statement by DPMMPP to ascertain whether it was slanderous against the Penang government and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

DPMMPP was one of 50 groups making up the ‘Sedaq’ (Aware) coalition of Malay NGOs that yesterday protested against alleged mistreatment by the authorities of Malay traders.

Among those who spoke at the rally, DPMMPP president Rizal Faris Mohideen said the authorities had been unduly demolishing the unlicensed premises of Malay traders.

The rally of around 300 people was led by Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali failed to deliver the memorandum personally to Lim.

Indignant at being met only by Lim’s political secretary Ng Wei Aik, the demonstrators burned the prepared memorandum before setting on fire an metre-high effigy of Lim.
